Title of the Project: Building Social Protection System for Vulnerable Children and Youths in Bhutan

Location of the project: Thimphu, Chukha, Paro,  Mongar, Zhemgang

Duration of the project: 24 months

Total Cost of the project (in Nu/ ): Nu 2,280,000.00

Objectives of the project: The objective of the project is to provide support and provide services to children and youth in difficult circumstances, including those who come in conflict with the law.

To enable such children to reintegrate into mainstream society. And to advocate for policy change in support of children and youth in difficult circumstances.

Target groups/ final beneficiaries: Since the proposed proposal is solely focused Social Protection System for Vulnerable Children and Youths in Bhutan ; they will be the primary beneficiary.

Estimated results:

The following results will be achieved at the end of the project;

  1. A fully functional Shelter home or Diversion home for children and youth in difficult circumstances and in conflict with law.
  2. Class room and dormitory at Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre (YDRC) renovated.
  3. Children and youth released from correctional facility (YDRC) and adult prison reintegrated into mainstream society, support continue Education, vocational training and gainfully employed or engaged.
  4. Parenting workshop in primary school & community conducted.
  5. Awareness program on Children in conflict with the law and Children in difficult circumstances conducted.

Main activities:

Renovation of  class room at Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre (YDRC) Juvenile correction facility

  1. Parenting workshop in school and community
  2. Children and youths who come in conflict with the law and are serving sentences receive support for education, vocational training and employment
  3. Awareness program on Children in conflict with the law and Children in difficult circumstances.
