Objectives of the project:

The social and economic conditions of women in rural target Dzongkhag and communities improved.

  • Providing labour saving devices to the SHGs (eg. Cotton ginning, carding, plucking, spinning for Nettle weaving groups)
  • Training on the use of the machineries
  • Designing new products from cotton (cotton for butter lamp/ textiles)
  • Market facilitation
  • Initiate group savings to sustain the activity
  • Training the existing Self Help Groups producing cotton

Target groups/ final beneficiaries: 

Women working in Organic cotton growing group in Pemagatshel, Nettle Weaving Group in Lhuentse and Monggar will benefit from this project in terms of skills development, part time employment, and income generation. The project will train women – young and old to fully engage in production, product development and marketing of the products. Youth will get opportunities to take up part time jobs with these SHGs in the collection and operation of machineries and marketing/
