Objectives of the project

  • Community’s knowledge of their roles and responsibilities in protecting their children increased. The local government will take ownership of the initiative implemented and relevant CSOs will offer technical support.
  • The project will contribute enormously to strengthening the child protection system in the community.

Target groups/ final beneficiaries    

  • Children who are vulnerable to abuse, violence, or neglect.

Estimated results

  • Children participants lead the community child protection sensitization.
  • Children participants develop skills to advocate for child protection and have increased awareness of child protection.
  • Local Leaders increase their support to integrate child protection activities in their gewog development plans.
  • Increased support from sector leaders on child protection: Dzongkhag sector leaders’ awareness of child protection increased and they integrated child protection agendas and budgets into their dzongkhag development plan.
  • To have inclusive and more child participation in the community development planning and process (Eg. chiwog Zomdu, Gewog Tshoagday, Dzongkhag Tshodgu, etc).
  • To have a proper community-based child protection and referral system.

Main activities

  • Tool development for the workshop.
  • A five-day workshop on the social issues of children in the community.
  • One-day presentation to the Gewog administration and local leaders by the child focal group.
  • 10 days of advocacy on child protection policy in the community (5 Chiwogs).
  • 1-day advocacy to the Dzongkhag Sector on child protection.
  • 1-day post workshop with National council – Social and Cultural Welfare Committee to inform and create dialogues on the urgent need for a more robust child protection system, and a need for a robust implementation at the National level.
