Draktsho Vocational Training Center, the first and the only center providing vocational training skills to persons with disabilities in the country, is continuing to impact the lives of people with disabilities (PWD) in Bhutan. Draktsho is currently implementing the 12-month CSO grant project, to make a difference in the lives of the 160 people they serve.
The main aim of the project is to provide skills training to the students to enhance their employment opportunities. Employment is known to increases self-sufficiency, social connectedness and create a sense of self-worth and dignity for individuals. For persons with disabilities, employment is considered a vital step towards their rehabilitation and empowerment in that it provides a sense of belonging, independence, and increases their social inclusion and overall well-being.
The project is currently supporting 160 students (107 boys, 53 girls) learn the skills of tailoring, painting, embroidery, digital printing, weaving, souvenir making, basket weaving and carpentry in its centers in Thimphu and Trashigang. The skills they acquire will enable them to seek meaningful employment in the market and also become self-employed in the near future.
